Megan’s House – Winner by TKO
In the end, it was no contest!
Megan’s House, the owners of Fist Fitness Gym in Westford and hundreds of attendees delivered a big blow against addiction with a fantastic fundraising event held this past Saturday, August 27. The boxing matches were a smash hit, particularly with Lowell legeng Irish Micky Ward acting as Special Guest Referee for a number of entertaining exhibitions featuring local fighters.
The capacity crowd, which packed the gym and the overflow tent just outside the open garage door leading to the boxing ring, was festive and extremely giving. The 50/50 raffle alone generated $1,200 as a number of volunteers, known as Megan’s Angels, worked the room full of generous people between bouts.
Lowell City Councilor Corey Belanger, a member of the Megan’s House Board of Directors, thanked the audience and spoke about the work being done to help young women overcome addiction and grow as they transition to the next phase of their lives. He also cited the numerous success stories along the way, including the seven residents who have already graduated the program.
When the evening was complete, the scorecard showed over $5,000 raised to help the Megan House Foundation continue its fight against addiction.
Thank you to all who made the evening a tremendous success, including Sean Ecklund and Joe Bellone, the owners of Fist Fitness who have run a number of these boxing exhibitions and were kind enough to designate Megan’s House the recipient of the proceeds. Thank you as well to Marci Barnes, who coordinated all the logistics for the event. Most of all, thank you to those who attended and gave so generously to the cause.
Together we save lives!
