From Heartbreak Comes a Heartwarming Story
When 39-year old Patrick Donovan passed away unexpectedly last April, his parents were heartbroken. But when the time came to make something positive come from their loss, they knew exactly how to go about it.
In Patrick’s obituary, Karen and Bernard Donovan asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Megan House Foundation in his name. They didn’t stop there.
On March 29th of this year, the day Patrick Donovan would have turned 40, his parents held a fundraiser in his name at the Village Inn in Dracut, MA. More than 200 attendees enjoyed music, raffles, food and fun, while honoring a bright young man who loved life, music and making people laugh.
In the process, they also raised $3,500 for Megan’s House.
Stories like the Donovan’s are common these days, not just for sadness at the loss of a loved one, but more importantly, in turning that loss into something that can help others. Time and time again, the Megan House Foundation is humbled by the number of people suggesting donations in lieu of flowers at a loved one’s funeral, and we are grateful to those who go a step father in joining our efforts to raise money and help make a difference in the lives of the young women who call Megan’s House home.
As with Megan Grover, Patrick Donovan’s memory will live in eternity through all those who benefit from his parents selfless efforts.
